2nd Right Toe Fusion

About 4 years ago I had an operation to straighten the second toe of my right foot that had become badly curled under from increased muscle tone, a side effect of a brain aneurysm I suffered back in 2000. The procedure involves making a small incision across second joint of the toe and removing the knuckle then inserting a temporary pin known as a k-wire by drilling it into place. Unfortunately this operation was a complete failure and the toe ended up even more bent and painful to walk on than it had started than it had started.
After years of waiting for the public health system I finally found myself at the top of the list for the redo. About 6 weeks ago it happened and instead of sending me home on the day of the operation they decided to keep me in hospital to give the bone a chance to start knitting. Two weeks after getting home the K-wire was accidentally pulled out by my daughter while changing the bandage oops. Back to surgery I go. They replaced the K-wire with a new and longer one. Sadly it was much more painful when the anaesthetic wore off. But a few weeks down the track the pin is out and I have a relatively straight toe at last.
