																There are over 100 bollards stretching our waterfront and they have been made out of huge wooden pylons, many recovered from the Yarra Street Pier which was destroyed by fire in the 1980’s and later removed. The wood was sculptured and then painstakingly hand painted to depict many of the events and history of the Geelong region from the times the local Wautharong People were the only inhabitants right up to modern times.

																The Winter Classic Rally and Tour is a Bitumen only touring road event with driving tests that was developed in 1997 in response to the popularity of the classic touring style rally for car enthusiasts. Organized by the Ballarat Light Car Club, the event has grown to become a regular event on many competitors calendar. The event is set around the roads of the Central Highlands and includes some of the state's most challenging driving roads and picturesque scenery The Winter Classic Rally format has been developed over the last 11 or so years to appeal to both regular competitors and newcomers to this style of event.

																Moooving Art is a mobile, interactive public art exhibit that features life-sized three-dimensional cow sculptures - with attitude! Local artists transform these sculptures to make each piece unique, or funny, or challenging.

The sculptures are regularly moved to different locations around the city. You can find the cows in parks and public open spaces, on the sidewalks and in surrounding towns. New cows are always being added to the herd as older ones are put out to pasture'.

Greater Shepparton is the heart of a region that produces 35°o of Australia's dairy exports, so the cow was a natural choice for this unusual exhibit. There are now over 90 cows wandering about the area, adding colour, and fun, to your visit.

																2008, Auto Hush Winter Classic Rally and Tour (84 photos)
																The Winter Classic Rally and Tour is an event put on by the Ballarat Light Car Club ( www.winterrally.ballarat.net.au/blcc/forum/portal.php ) annually in late August. It comprises several tests and navigation and touring events.

The Rally format has been developed to suit entrants who have competed in events of this type before who enjoy driving tests and relish the challenges that navigationally oriented touring sections provide. The Rally format includes a mixture of challenging driving tests each day to guarantee a true team effort. The Tour, with clear and full touring instructions, suits navigationally inexperienced competitors, first time competitors or those who simply wish to enjoy their driving tests without the highs and lows of finding their way. The Tour uses guaranteed sealed roads, hence making it suitable for all vehicles. Both the Rally and Tour use the same driving tests, allowing all drivers to compete against each other in this part of the Event.

																Waubra Wind Farm (16 photos)
																The Waubra Wind Farm Project is located in Waubra, approximately 35kms North West of Ballarat. The Wind Farm is situated in two municipalities, the Shire of Pyrenees and the City of Ballarat. The project site (approximately 173km²) is a series of hills and high plateaus which form part of the Great Dividing Range. The site consists primarily of cleared agricultural land used for sheep and cattle grazing and potato growing.

The Waubra Wind Farm will comprise of 128 wind turbines, with associated access tracks, substations and an operations centre. Each turbine will generate 1.5 megawatts (MW), providing a total installed capacity of 192MW. The green energy generated by the Wind Farm each year will provide for 143,000 households – more than enough to power the City of Ballarat. The Wind Farm is expected to offset up to 635,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year. This helps to meet future energy needs without further contributing to the cause of climate change.

																Ballarat ‘Old’ Cemetery  (23 photos)
																The Ballarat ‘Old’ Cemetery is the last resting place for around 25000 former residents. Wondering through the Cemetery you notice that many people are buried according to religious denominations. Most of these people have contributed something to Ballarat’s history but the Eureka Memorials commemorate two very special groups. Following the battle at Eureka many of the bodies were buried in a mass grave but later their remains were treated a little more respectfully. In 1856 a Geelong man provided funds for the construction of the memorial to the fallen diggers. Two decades latter local citizens and the Victorian Government decided to mark the soldiers’ graves. The inscriptions on the memorials give a clear indication of public attitudes in the 1880’s. ‘Rebels’, ‘Tyrants’ and ‘Duty’. You will still find differing opinions on what these words mean today.

																Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial, Ballarat (15 photos)
																The Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial located at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens features a granite wall listing the names of Australian Prisoners of War (POW). The listing is by surname and initials and shown by war. Between the Boer War (1899-1902) and the Korean War in the 1950's 34,737 Australian servicemen and women (59 World War II nurses) were incarcerated in POW camps.

No complete list of names of Australian prisoners of war has previously been compiled. Records from the Australian War Memorial, the Department of Veterans' Affairs, the National Archives of Australia, the State Library of Victoria, military histories, history web-pages, newspapers and replies resulting from an Australia-wide appeal for names have been consulted. There are errors and gaps in the records available. Unfortunately some names will have been overlooked. Provision has been made for additional names to be added to the Memorial.

																Ballarat Light Car Club Autocross 1 held July 6, 2008

Autocross is one of the best value for money motorsport categories around. Autocross is held on unsealed surfaces the Ballarat Light Car Clubs track is about1.3 km in length. The surface is granite sand; people say one of the best in Victoria, utilizing various different layouts and now can run in both Directions.

You are timed, it is a single Car situation (Witches hats guide you and you lose points for each one that you hit). The Track is licensed by (CAMS) The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport, so you will need A CAMS licence to compete & to be a member of a car club.

The Ballarat Light Car Club normally runs about 6 Autocrosses in a year, the Competition Cars range from Standard to Specials. Most of the Competitors have road registered Cars, Drive them there and Home again, So you can drive anything from a Mitsubishi Colt, to a Subaru STi and still have Fun.
